MANDATE

The Training Group's mandate is derived from the Local Government Act (Northern Ireland) 1972, which included among the specific functions of the Staff Commission:

“Promoting or assisting the development of, or providing facilities for the training of officers.”

The Training Group was established in April 1993 and from April 2000 its relationship with the Staff Commission was formalised in a Service Level Agreement.

VISION STATEMENT

The vision statement for the Training Group is taken from the Staff Commission's strategic objective for the operational area of learning and development:

“To influence priorities and processes and to build capacity across local government by becoming the preferred source of advice and support for learning and development.”
