• Local Government Training Group Providing a secretariat service, including research and professional advice, to the Local Government Training Group and reporting on the work of the Training Group to the Staff Commission, with particular reference to the effective implementation of the Group's strategy and business plan. • Assessment Arrangements Promoting the use of tailored assessment arrangements during the recruitment and selection process, as a means of providing additional competence-based information on candidates.

• Chief Executive Recruitment Providing a service for the administration of the recruitment and selection process for Chief Executive appointments in the councils.

• Advice and Assistance on Training and Development Issues Advising and assisting councils in matters related to identifying training and development needs and to meeting needs through appropriate courses and programmes.
