Employing Migrant Workers – Developing Best Practice

The next Equality Network Seminar will be held on Wednesday 3 May 2006 in Lough Neagh Discovery Centre, Oxford Island, Craigavon.  This half day event will focus practical guidance for councils on employing migrant workers.

Daniel Holder, Project Manager, ANIMATE, will raise awareness of best practice and signpost participants to key service providers who can meet the specific needs of migrant workers.

The Equality Commission has been promoting employment equality plans covering the spectrum of equality categories and are pleased with the positive interest and outcomes from councils to date. Michelle Morris, Employment Development Officer, Equality Commission NI, will outline how these plans can be adapted to focus on race equality.  She will also highlight other aspects of the Equality Commission's work in this area.

Business in the Community, through the Opportunity Now Campaign, has developed guidance for employers.  Denise Cranston, Diversity Director with Opportunity Now will outline the Voluntary Code of Practice on Employing Migrant Workers and the recently launched Guide to help with the successful integration of migrant workers into the workplace.
