Disability Duties - Disability Action Plan - Thursday 15 March 2007

From 1 January 2007 the district councils, in carrying out their functions, are required to have due regard to the need:

· to promote positive attitudes towards disabled people

· to encourage participation by disabled people in public life

The Councils are committed to the fulfillment of these duties and will set out how they intend to do this in a Disability Action Plan.

We are holding a consultation event from 10.15 am to 1.00 pm on Thursday 15 March 2007 in Lisburn Valley Island to give you the opportunity to tell us what actions you think Councils should include in their disability action plans and how they should prioritise the actions. Representatives from each of the Councils will be at the consultation event.
