*****Please note that the Women in Local Councils Celebration Event scheduled for 26 June in Hillsborough Castle has now been postponed to Wednesday 1^st October 2008********

This event will celebrate the success of an innovative approach to address a common change problem across local government in Northern Ireland.

The Women in Local Councils initiative involves a partnership between the Local Government Staff Commission and the Training Group, SOLACE, NILGA, the National Association of Councillors, the Equality Commission, Business in the Community, trade unions, and the Institute of Governance at Queens' University.

Since the Launch in 2006, Women in Local Councils has achieved a great deal. Our aims and objectives for 2008 and beyond will ensure that we continue to make a difference in the areas we support. We want to build on the success of our first years and share the lessons learnt to facilitate and accelerate gender equality in local government.
