WORKPLACE MEDIATION SCHEMES

The Commission is hosting this half day event in order to promote alternative dispute resolution (ADR) mechanisms in local government in Northern Ireland in line with the Government's expectation that local government will consider using mediation where appropriate.

The event will be facilitated by the Centre for Effective Dispute Resolution (CEDR) and will focus on the most commonly used and flexible ADR process i.e. Mediation – a process involving an independent person to assist parties in negotiating a consensual agreement.

The session aims to provide practical information to:

introduce participants to the way the process can be used in the public sector and the types of cases in which it is suitable.

describe the use of mediation outside the context of litigation.

describe the current breadth of ADR applications and developments in the public authority context.

The event is aimed at Chief Executives, Directors, Human Resource professionals, Trade Union representatives and senior managers.
