Leading in a Political Environment - Friday 12 September 2008 12th September 2008 at 10:00 AM until 12th September 2008 at 1:00 PM Location: Lough Neagh Discovery Centre, Oxford Isalnd, Craigavon The next few years will present many challenges for those involved in delivering public services at local level. The creation of 11 new local government organisations and the introduction of a council led community planning process will have major implications, not just for local government managers but for all public managers representing the wide range of functions and services administered and delivered locally.
Against this background and evolving policy agenda, the Local Government Staff Commission in co-operation with SOLACE NI and the Chief Executive's Forum is organising a series of workshops that will examine some of the issues involved and, more generally, ways in which local managers representing different agencies can better work together to achieve better outcomes for the communities they serve.
This workshop entitled 'Leading in a Political Environment' will examine the challenge of working and managing effectively in a political environment at the local level. It will consider how members and officers, particularly chief executives and senior managers, can make sure that they work together well in the best interests of the council and the people served by the council.
It will also explore the contribution that both central and local government can make to their shared agenda for improving the well-being of communities. The focus will be on the relationships between local and central government within the context of a fully functioning devolved Assembly.
The workshop cost - £40.00 per delegate
