Introduction to Sign Language for Front-Line Staff - Tuesday 4 November (Course full - register on the reserve list)- Tuesday 2 December 2008

Other Information:

This 15 hour course is split over five half day sessions and is aimed at reception staff in council administrative offices, in leisure centres and community centres and also staff who deal with the public such as Registrars. The five-week block will provide an introduction to basic sign language.

Objectives

The course is unique as it is specifically designed to introduce staff to sign language and participants acquire the basic sign language to communicate with frontline customers, clients or colleagues who are Deaf.

The course will be delivered by a Deaf Teacher and will introduce front-line staff to basic BSL vocabulary signs.  It will teach words and phrases that are commonly used in your council and the training and vocabulary will be tailored to meet the needs of delegates attending the course.

Cancellation Policy:

Substitutions may be made at any time, but please give as much notice as possible.  In the event of a cancellation notified between two weeks and one week before the start of a course, a charge of £120 per training day will be levied.  For a cancellation less than one week before the start of a course, or a nominee's failure to attend a course, a cancellation fee of £240 per training day will be charged to councils.  This principle will also be applied if a participant fails to attend on any day of a course lasting two or more days.  No charge will be levied if a cancelled place is filled from a reserve list.
